Character name: Prince Bubba Gumball
Fandom: Adventure Time
Timeline: End of issue 3 of the Fionna and Cake comic.
Age: 18
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:

He's made of candy, which I guess counts. Especially since it means the way he functions is pretty different from a human. His age is affected by his candy biomass rather than the standard ageing process, although judging by what Bubblegum has said he will still die eventually. He has been 18 for quite some time, however, and that doesn't appear to be changing any time soon.

Even if he sustains what should be fatal injuries to a human he can be repaired and still be completely physically healthy. He will, however, become younger if there is less candy biomass for doctors to work with, both physically and mentally.

Gumball is also pretty great at baking. Is this really a magical ability? Well. Dude can bake magical wish granting swords. I'd say it's worth mentioning here.

How would they use their abilities?: By baking magical sparkle cookies? Really, though, he isn't likely to do anything that would have too much of an impact on anyone unless they managed to get stuck in his hair or something.

Appearance:

Gumball is humanoid, but only in his basic shape. He's made entirely of candy, his pompadour hair and prominent eyebrows being bright pink bubblegum. His skin is pink, too, though it's a paler shade. The only part of his body that isn't pink is his eyes, which are purple.

His clothes are the sort of thing you might expect from to find in a generic prince's wardrobe. He almost always wears a puffy sleeved tunic, with smart shoes and trousers, all in shades of pink and purple. It's likely there are occasions where he decides to dress down, but his colour scheme would stay the same. He likes his pink, okay? Even in casual wear Gumball is unlikely to remove his crown. This is small and gold in appearance, with a single turquoise stone.

Background/Personality:

Gumball is the ruler of the Candy Kingdom in the Land of Ooo, a version which was absolutely not invented by the Ice King so he could write terrible fanfiction about his gender swapped Finn and Jake characters Fionna and Cake.

Well. Okay. It might have been. Prince Gumball himself was created as the male version of Princess Bubblegum. However, for the sake of this app and playing Gumball in a game this Ooo is completely real. It's just in a universe a little to the left of the more familiar Ooo, and has slightly different inhabitants. Ice King believes in it. Why can't you?

For clarity, let's explore the basic premise of Gumball's Ooo and the main players before I start getting into things. Ooo is basically Earth, but a long time from now. A war in an unspecified year known as the Great Mushroom War all but wiped out humanity and the world as we know it. A thousand years later, things have settled, but they've changed. Humans are a rare breed, in fact Gumball only knows one. Fionna is a 14 year old hero who goes around Ooo slaying monsters and saving Gumball from the Ice Queen along with her sister Cake. Cake is a cat. A magical, talking cat with stretchy powers. This is the sort of thing that is perfectly normal in Ooo. There are also incredibly annoying vampires who live off the colour red *cough*MarshallLee*cough*, flame people, and the previously mentioned Ice Queen... who is exactly what she sounds like. She is queen of the Ice Kingdom and regularly makes attempts to kidnap Gumball and the other princes to try and marry them. Gumball is probably her favourite victim, but she's not exactly picky.

Gumball is prince of the Candy Kingdom and appears to do a pretty good job of ruling it. The Candy Kingdom seems to be prosperous, and Gumball's people are fond of him. At one point Gumball becomes trapped in a dungeon underneath his kingdom and the candy people are visibly upset, gathering around the hole he had blasted to access the dungeon and crying over their prince's predicament. Luckily, Fionna was at hand to make sure the Candy Kingdom wasn't left without its ruler.

Gumball frequently finds himself in situations he needs her to rescue him from. The Ice Queen resides far too near the Candy Kingdom for Gumball's liking and he often finds himself a victim of her kidnappings. It is Fionna who stands in her way most of the time, and without her it seems likely Gumball may have at one point or another become husband to a queen he would really much rather have a restraining order against. Fionna and Cake are not only his protectors, however. They are also his close friends, and he enjoys hanging out with them when he can manage it. He appreciates what Fionna does for him, and shows his gratitude with gifts such as cream puffs or wish granting swords. He is extremely fond of her, and has asked her to be his special guest to events platonically, as well as on one occasion asking her to be his girlfriend after she had rescued him. Although she rejected him they are still close, and Gumball values her friendship too much to let her turning him down for a relationship ruin what they already had.

Being a prince, Gumball is generally quite proper. His attire is usually formal, and his mannerisms are polite. Diplomacy is an important skill for him to have for keeping his kingdom in order, as well as maintaining good relations with any of the neighbouring kingdoms. He is practised at keeping a level head when he needs to, although that does not mean he doesn't lose his temper at times. He has an antagonistic relationship with Marshall Lee to say the least. His constant pranks and uncouth behaviour bother him and the two often fight when they do interact. That is not to say they aren't still friends. They may not always act like it, but they Marshall has still attended balls hosted by Gumball, and they are on good enough terms at times that boy's nights with Fionna are not uncommon occurrences. They can also cooperate without a mediator when they need to. They've had at least one boy's night they didn't invite Fionna to because Gumball wanted to make something special for Fionna for being his friend and always being there to help him. However, when they don't need each other they are prone to fighting, or even outright ignoring each other. Their personalities clash in many ways, and this makes it difficult for Gumball not to be aggravated by the way Marshall acts.

Although Gumball is a protagonist, and generally does seem to care about other people, he has on occasion shown a disturbing lack of empathy. In the very first scene Gumball is ever seen in, he is letting Fionna and Cake kick up little jelly kinders onto his ceiling as decorations for his Biennial Gumball Ball. When Fionna asks if they're alive, Gumball laughs off the notion claiming that they can't even talk. Which would be all well and good, except the very next moment the gummy guy in his hand starts moving and making noises. Gumball's reaction is to clap his hand over the kinder's mouth with a shifty look before tossing it to Fionna and telling her to kick it. There's another incident when Gumball discover the pilot light in his oven is out, meaning he can't use it. When he spots Flame Prince he's eager to put him in his oven to help with his baking, and though Flame Prince is actually completely okay with that it doesn't really occur to him to ask.

This isn't a lack of ability to empathise at all, though. Gumball cares about his friends and he cares about his people. It's more likely he doesn't always consider the needs of beings he perceives to be of lower intelligence or when he needs something that seems important to him. This is probably something that is actually helpful as a ruler on occasion. If he has to put aside the needs of one person for the good of his kingdom he is unlikely to dwell on it too much even if it isn't something he's that happy about. This means he is able to make decisions others might struggle to and still be able to carry on with his duties without feeling too guilty afterwards.

Of course, ruling a kingdom is still a stressful business. Gumball has hobbies outside of his princely duties and friends. He has a passion for baking, and has probably perfected a whole range of recipes, some even being his own creations. It's a hobby that goes back to his childhood, and Gumball's stated that his bedtime stories involved legends of the Ancient Enchanted Oven, lost to his people long before Gumball was around. He dedicated a large part of his life to finding and learning how to use that oven, and despite saying it took a highly skilled individual to use it he seemed to be able to without much trouble. He also immediately recognises the heated salt crystal absorbing the heat from Flame Prince, and has a solid understanding of what it will do to him if it isn't extracted. This shows that although he doesn't show much interest in what are typically seen as intellectual pursuits, he isn't unintelligent in the slightest. His interests just lie in a different area and his focus is there. Not all his focus, of course, but what he can spare for his enjoyment he will.

His priority and main source of focus has to be the Candy Kingdom. He's a lone ruler and so its running is solely his responsibility. He has staff to help him around the castle, and Fionna to protect the kingdom from attack, but he doesn't appear to have any advisers. All the politics are down to Gumball to sort out. He makes the decisions, attends meetings, takes responsibility for staying on good terms with the neighbouring kingdoms, as well as making sure he spends time with the people of his kingdom. It's a lot of pressure he sometimes wishes he didn't have, but he doesn't begrudge the sacrifices he has to make because of it in the slightest. It might be difficult, but he accepts his responsibilities and ultimately he does want to make decisions that are for the best for his kingdom and his people. Besides that, there are definitely aspects of his work that he does enjoy. He enjoys hosting events for the benefit of his friends and people at the very least, and let's not forget his unlimited access to the royal kitchen.

Why do you want to continue their history here: N/A

For applicants considering an alternate version of a character already in game, please use this as your chance to explain the key differences between your character and the one already in play:

Apart from this Ooo and its inhabitants being part of some creepy old guy's fanfiction? Well. He's a dude, for starters. In fact, everyone in this Ooo has the opposite gender to their regular Ooo counterpart. Visually and style-wise PB and PG appear to be pretty similar, but there are differences in their behaviour and interests.

Whereas Bubblegum loves science, Gumball seems to be fonder of baking. This may not seem like a big deal, but it potentially contributes to some of the other differences in Gumball's history, such as Flame Prince. In Bubblegum's Ooo, Flame Princess is locked up by Flame King as Bubblegum realises she is physically unstable. In Gumball's Ooo, Flame Prince lives with a pride of Flame Lions and Gumball doesn't even appear to know him. Not having the same interest in science as Bubblegum, it's he wouldn't realise the potential dangers of Flame Prince as much Bubblegum would.

Despite the differences in their history that come from their differing interests, I would say some things should remain the same. At first glance, characters such as Lemongrab shouldn't exist in Gumball's Ooo as he was created by Bubblegum as one of her experiments. However, baked products coming to life isn't exactly uncommon in fairy tales. There are stories such as Johnny Cake and the Gingerbread Man that show this. I'm sure Gumball has experimented himself with his baking, and in a world like Ooo Gumball creating people in his oven isn't really all that outlandish.

Is this also a good place for me to throw up links and junk showing where I got some of this stuff from? Good. Because I'm going to. Because there are a few things about Gumball that aren't really addressed in canon, but are probably true. So far he has never had his first name mentioned in canon, but Natasha Allegri mentioned on her Formspring before it went down that it was Bubba. Adam Muto refers to it here, though. In fanon, Gumball's land is commonly referred to as Aaa (and I messed up and did this in a sample post I'm linking too, whoops), but it seems as though that is actually just a thing that marketing popularised. Going by this, Gumball's land is still known as Ooo so that's what I'm going with. I can't think of much else to add, but here is a link to his wiki page just for good measure.

Have you read up on how the game works?:

Flaming Ferret is the plug-in. He can get money through missions, freelance jobs for other characters, or mooching. Though of course Gumball is far too civilised for that last option, unlike Marshall Lee a certain vampire who will remain unnamed.

1st person sample:

[The video feed is only partially accidental. The pink teen on the screen is seated on the edge of a bed, the background showing the room to be one of the lowest of lows. He has a small gold crown on top of his head, and his towel is draped around his shoulders. He's staring intently, a slight frown on his features as he tries to work this thing out.]

Is this on now? Ah. It's working.

[Pleased with his success, he waves, smiling brightly.]

Hello everyone. My name is Prince Gumball of... [Oh.] Formerly of Ooo. I was wondering if anyone else from Ooo had made it here. If you could contact me, or let anyone you've seen know, I'd be grateful.

I'd especially like to know if they're from the Candy Kingdom. Or if you've seen a human called Fionna. I know there are a lot of those here, but she's blonde and wears a bunny hat. Her shirt should be similar to this.

[Gumball tugs on the t-shirt he's wearing, showing the text reading BOYS NIGHT and vampire face emblazoned on it more clearly.]

If Fionna is here, she'll probably be with a cat called Cake. I'm not sure how far they'd have got with those forms if they are here.

[Plus a bonus Dear Mun entry.]

3rd person sample:

Out of all the boy's nights Gumball had ever been a part of, this one had to be by far the most disastrous. Finding himself enthralled by his own reflection in that enchanted flan glaze had been bad enough, but the demise of Ooo had definitely sealed it.

He wondered whether anyone else had been rescued. He doubted he could have been the only one. At the very least a few of those in close proximity should have been here. He'd only just got out of Cake's baby sling, after all. Besides that, it didn't make any sense to only rescue one person. Then again, Gumball hadn't got very far yet. Maybe the other's been lucky enough to evade the vogons. He couldn't imagine Fionna making that much progress, or Cake for that matter. As for Marshall Lee... Well. Marshall Lee wouldn't have so much as picked up a pen.

Of course Gumball had and several pages later he was almost starting to think Marshall Lee's line of thinking wasn't so unreasonable, which just went to show exactly how bad this form was. He didn't mind paperwork, but this was ridiculous. He'd lost count of the pages he'd filled in and how long he'd been filling them a while back, but finally on the last page he was heartened and managed to complete it rather more quickly than he had been. He signed it with a flourish, pushing the stack of completed papers towards the vogon who'd handed them to him with satisfation.

He was glad to have it over with, and was looking forward to a well deserved break for his cramped, overworked hand. He turned to leave, massaging said hand tenderly. Then came an ominous thud from behind him. The sound of a stack of papers hitting the counter. Oh Grod. Gumball turned and stared the the fresh pile with dispair.

“I... think I may need a break.”

No sooner had he finished speaking another pile appeared next to the first.

“You'll need to complete these forms before we can authorise your break,” the ever helpful vogon informed him. Gumball grabbed up a pen and hastily pulled the first stack towards himself with a nervous grin.

“Never mind.”

Questions?: Can I just use the same reason for Ooo's destruction as the rest of the AT crew? I know they're different Ooo's but I'm lazy and I like that one.
